Getting started

Move an existing website to PK Hosting

Copy your files and database first, test, then switch DNS last — with zero downtime.

Migrate in this order to avoid downtime:

  1. Copy files: download your site from the old host and upload it into public_html here (see Upload your website files).
  2. Move the database: export the SQL from your old host and import it into a new database here (see Create a MySQL database). Update your app's config with the new database details.
  3. Recreate mailboxes for every email address before switching DNS, so no mail is lost.
  4. Test the copy on our server before pointing the domain (we can preview via a temporary URL — open a ticket if you need one).
  5. Switch DNS last: only after the copy works, change nameservers or the A record (see Connect a domain). Keep the old hosting active for 48 hours while DNS propagates.

Moving a WordPress site? The All-in-One WP Migration or Duplicator plugins export your whole site as one file you can restore here after a fresh one-click install.
